Romania

Romania explores the notion that, as an immigrant, one possible life was left to start a new one.  I photograph the people and places that would have been familiar to me, but remain strange.  The hardships communism generated for the people of Romania prompted our family’s immigration to the United States. But in 1989 communism fell quickly, and our family’s reason for immigration was slowly erased. Going back to Romania every couple of years allows for continued documentation of this alternate family history.
