Marion Misilim is a Queens-based photographer, educator, and post-production specialist whose work bridges documentary storytelling, portraiture, and fine photographic production.

Her work is grounded in close observation, restraint, and attention to the expressive weight of ordinary moments. For the past twenty years, she has explored the intersection of what is real and what is remembered, using photography’s apparent fidelity to the world as a way to create ambiguity rather than certainty. She drawn to the medium because making photographs requires direct engagement with people, places, and material reality, even as the resulting images can shift, unsettle, or complicate what we think we know. Through documentary, portraiture, and other related forms, she is interested in how photographs can suggest narrative without resolving it, allowing gesture, environment, light, and detail to carry meaning.

Alongside her own practice, she collaborates with artists and photographers on books, exhibitions, and projects, shaping photographic prints as objects that transform the spaces they inhabit and deepen the ways photographs are encountered. She brings that same considered attention to photographs in book production, where sequencing, material, and scale shape how images unfold over time.

She holds a BFA in photography and an MPS from ITP at NYU, and brings more than two decades of teaching and professional experience to her work with students. In the classroom and studio, she supports emerging photographers as they develop technical fluency, visual confidence, and a creative voice of their own.
